PARIS (AA) - The French and Armenian defense chiefs on Tuesday signed an agreement for the sale of the Caesar self-propelled artillery system to Armenia.
On X, France’s Sebastien Lecornu said he met with Suren Papikyan during Eurosatory, Europe's largest defense industry event, held every two years in Paris.
Lecornu called their meeting productive, adding news of the deal and saying: "We continue to strengthen our defense relations with Armenia."
He did not say how many of the Caesars Armenia will purchase.
The Caesar artillery systems are produced by the French defense firm Nexter.
France has long supported the landlocked country in the South Caucasus, particularly in its frictions with its neighbor Azerbaijan.
The deal comes as Armenia moves farther away from its traditional ally dating back to the Soviet era, Russia.
