Asian Parliamentary Assembly demands end to Israel's attacks on Gaza Strip

Assembly points out necessity of establishing independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital

BAGHDAD (AA) - A final declaration of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly Meeting was released Friday that emphasized that Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip should be stopped as soon as possible.

The declaration pointed out the necessity of establishing an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital and called for a rapid and unconditional halt to all ongoing violence against Gaza.

It said the Palestinian people's right to struggle and resistance should be legitimized by all possible means, and demanded that the ongoing blockade in Gaza be lifted for the reconstruction of the areas destroyed by Israeli attacks.

- Call for full Palestine membership in UN

The declaration also urged that Palestine be granted full membership in the UN.

“As what is happening threatens peace and security in the Middle East region, we call on the international community to put pressure on the criminal Zionist entity to immediately stop the war and comply with international humanitarian agreements and conventions,” it said.

"We support granting Palestine full membership in the UN, reject the plans of the criminal Zionist entity aimed at annexing the entire Palestinian Jordan Valley, north of the Dead Sea and settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, and believe that they must be stopped," it said.

The assembly, attended by Türkiye, underlined that Israel plans to deport residents of Gaza and the West Bank. It said Israel's occupation and aggression in all of Palestinian, Syrian and Lebanese territories should end.

At the end of the meeting, a demand was made to the International Criminal Court to conduct a comprehensive investigation into war crimes committed in Gaza.
