ISTANBUL (AA) - At least one person was killed and 11 others injured in overnight Russian airstrikes on Ukraine's southwestern Odesa and southern Kherson regions.
“In the Odesa region, in the evening, the enemy attacked with drones. Two apartment buildings and 11 private buildings were damaged. 11 people were injured, including 3 children,” Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said on Telegram.
Klymenko went on to say that an initial rocket attack in the Kherson region killed one person, while destroying a building, a private house, and a garage.
“Later, the Russian military attacked Kherson twice. Rescuers extinguished the fire in an apartment building and a business center. Fortunately, there were no casualties,” Klymenko further said.
In a separate statement, the Ukrainian Air Force claimed that Russia conducted airstrikes in the country with 42 attack drones and six S-300 anti-aircraft missiles.
“Six anti-aircraft missiles were fired around midnight from the temporarily occupied Kherson region in the direction of Mykolaiv and Kherson regions,” the statement said.
It further claimed that 41 of the 42 drones launched by Russia were downed by air defense systems, most of which were shot down over the Odesa region.
Russian officials have not yet commented on the attack, and independent verification of Ukraine’s claims is difficult due to the ongoing war.
