WASHINGTON (AA) - At least 10 people were shot, including two who died of their wounds, during a mass shooting at a grocery store in Fordyce, Arkansas on Friday morning.
The shooter, who has not been publicly identified, was fatally shot in an exchange of gunfire with police, according to multiple media reports. One officer was struck by gunfire, but his wounds are not life threatening, the reports said, citing anonymous sources.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, but bystander footage posted to social media appears to show the gunman repeatedly firing a shotgun in a parking lot outside the Mad Butcher grocery store. At least one body can be seen laying on the asphalt as shots ring out in a separate video.
The Arkansas State Police did not respond to requests for comment.
Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said she has been briefed "on the tragic shooting in Fordyce," and is in "constant contact" with police.
"I am thankful to law enforcement and first responders for their quick and heroic action to save lives. My prayers are with the victims and all those impacted by this horrific incident," she said on X.
