GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) - At least two people were killed and 15 others injured, including 10 children, in a new Israeli strike on a school sheltering displaced civilians in Gaza City on Wednesday, the Civil Defense Agency said.

The attack targeted the Salah al-Din School, where hundreds of civilians have taken shelter in western Gaza City, witnesses said.

A medical source at Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital confirmed that it had received an unspecified number of casualties following the Israeli strike.

Wednesday’s attack was the ninth to have targeted schools in Gaza since early August, killing at least 179 civilians, including women and children, and injuring hundreds, according to Palestinian figures.

Israel has systematically targeted civilian facilities, including schools, hospitals, and places of worship, amid its ongoing offensive on the Gaza Strip despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire.

Under the rules of war, targeting such civilian facilities can constitute a war crime.

The Israeli onslaught on Gaza since last Oct. 7 has resulted in over 40,200 Palestinian deaths, mostly women and children, and nearly 93,000 injuries, according to local health authorities.
The ongoing blockade of Gaza has led to severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, leaving much of the region in ruins.

Israel faces accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice, which has ordered a halt to military operations in the southern city of Rafah, where over one million Palestinians had sought refuge before the area was invaded on May 6.
