Australia beat Spain 92-80, while Germany defeated Japan on Saturday in the men's basketball at 2024 Paris Olympics.

The two-time World Cup winners Spain started the Group A with a defeat despite Santi Aldama's 27 points at Pierre Mauroy Stadium.

Australian Jock Landale's 20 points and Patty Mills' 19 points contributions brought victory to their team.

The reigning FIBA World Cup champions Germany have begun the Olympics men's basketball Group B with a 97-77 win against Japan on Saturday.

German Franz Wagner dropped 22 points, while his compatriot Dennis Schroder contributed with 13 points and 12 assists at Pierre Mauroy Stadium.

Rui Hachimura's 20 points performance was not enough for Japan to grab a win.

Greece will take on Canada, while France will face Brazil in the men’s basketball group phase matches on Saturday.
