ANKARA (AA) – The Australian police have made the first arrest in connection with riots that followed a church stabbing in Sydney's south-west on Monday night, local media reported on Wednesday.
New South Wales Police said they arrested a 19-year-old man from a home in Power Street, Doonside, and took him to Blacktown Police Station, ABC News reported.
The stabbing incident occurred at the Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley, western Sydney, an Assyrian Orthodox church, on Monday.
At least five people, including two police officers, were injured in the incident and riots.
The riots started after a 16-year-old boy allegedly stabbed the priest, identified as Mar Mari Emmanuel, during mass service in the church.
On Tuesday, police declared the church attack as "terror-related," and said the counter-terrorism team will investigate the incident.
