ANKARA (AA) – Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Wednesday spoke to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reiterating Canberra’s support to Kyiv in its war against Russia.
“Good to talk with @ZelenskyyUa tonight to convey our admiration for the courage, resilience and determination of the Ukrainian people to defend their sovereignty and the international rule of law," Albanese said in a post on X.
“We will continue our support for the people of Ukraine for as long as it takes," he added.
Zelenskyy, for his part, expressed his gratitude for Australia’s “unwavering” support for Ukraine.
“I informed the Prime Minister (Albanese) about Russia’s ongoing efforts to expand the war and our pressing defense needs to counter the aggressor,” he said on X.
The two leaders also discussed the upcoming peace summit on Ukraine due to be held in Switzerland in mid June.
“We also discussed the upcoming Peace Summit and the need to encourage as many nations from around the globe as possible to attend it. I highly appreciate Australia's willingness to be present at the summit," he maintained.
