GENEVA (AA) - The Austrian chancellor said on Friday that Russia's Gazprom will stop gas supply to Austria from Saturday.
"What we have been preparing for since the outbreak of war in Ukraine has happened. I was informed this afternoon that Gazprom will stop deliveries to (Austrian gas company) OMV tomorrow morning," Karl Nehammer said on X.
Nehammer promised that "no one will freeze in winter, no apartment will remain cold."
The precautions are in place, he assured and said Austria's "gas storage facilities are full and from tomorrow we will receive sufficient gas from other sources."
According to the chancellor, the storage level is at 93%, calling it "more than the annual requirement" for the whole country.
He added that all gas suppliers have been legally obliged to take precautionary steps "so that we are as well prepared as possible for that day."
