ANKARA (AA) - World no. 6 in men's tennis, Dominic Thiem said on Wednesday that he will miss the remainder of the 2021 season for a right wrist injury.
"... Unfortunately, I've had to withdraw from the US Open and will miss the rest of the 2021 season. I'm really disappointed not to be able to defend the title in New York but I haven't recovered from the wrist injury I suffered back in June at the Mallorca Open," Austria's Thiem said on Twitter.
The 27-year-old has previously withdrawn from the Wimbledon because of the injury.
Thiem won the 2020 US Open, his first major title.
The 2021 US Open, which is the final Grand Slam of the year, will kick off on Aug. 30.
