BAKU (AA) – Azerbaijan confirmed its first death from the coronavirus on Thursday.
The country’s operational headquarters on coronavirus said the victim was a 51-year-old woman who had recently returned from Iran.
She sought medical attention in the capital Baku after developing symptoms of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.
She tested positive for the disease and was admitted for treatment, but passed away in the capital on Thursday.
Azerbaijan has reported a total of nine cases until now.
The worlwide death toll from COVID-19 has surpassed 4,600, with over 124,000 confirmed cases, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The virus originated in Wuhan, China, last December and has spread to more than 110 countries. On Wednesday, the WHO declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic.
