ISTANBUL (AA) - Azerbaijan on Monday detained two Iranian citizens who entered the country’s territorial waters in the Caspian Sea, the state border service said.
A statement said coast guards observed an unknown vessel moving southward near the settlement of Alat.
“A warning shot was fired in order to stop the target detected by the border guard ship,” the statement said, adding that the boat with two crew members was then seized.
According to the press release, 2.4 kilograms of narcotic marijuana packaged in eight parcels and thrown into the sea by those detained were found and seized during search efforts, while further investigation was initiated.
