MOSCOW (AA) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev dissolved on Friday the country's parliament, and appointed Sept. 1 as the date for the early parliamentary elections.
The relevant decree was published on the Azerbaijani presidential website.
The Azerbaijani Constitutional Court on Thursday ruled the dissolution of the parliament and the holding of snap elections "legitimate," following a request submitted to the court by the ruling political party Yeni Azerbaijan.
The deputy chairman of the Yeni Azerbaijan, Tair Budagov, explained that the next parliamentary elections should be held in early November 2024.
Meanwhile, a global event is scheduled to be held in Baku in November -- the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Azerbaijan's authorities decided to reschedule the date of the parliamentary elections to avoid the scheduling conflict.
