Azerbaijan’s president stresses importance of joint projects with Georgia for wider Eurasian region

Ilham Aliyev holds talks with chairman of Georgian Parliament in Baku

ISTANBUL (AA) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said on Monday that his country’s joint projects with neighboring Georgia are an important factor in the wider Eurasian region.

“Touching upon the importance of joint projects carried out by the two countries, President Ilham Aliyev described it as a significant factor in the broader region – the Eurasian space,” said a statement by the Azerbaijani presidency, following a meeting between Aliyev and Shalva Papuashvili, the chairman of the Georgian Parliament.

The statement said that Aliyev expressed confidence that the joint initiatives between the two countries will be successfully implemented.

“The head of state commended the contribution of interparliamentary cooperation to the development of bonds, adding that it created a necessary legal foundation for further strengthening cooperation,” it added.

It also said that Aliyev praised the development of bilateral relations in all areas, adding that he expressed confidence that Papuashvili’s visit to Azerbaijan would contribute to their development.

For his part, Papuashvili underlined the importance of projects implemented by the two countries, underlining that these projects “contribute to the welfare of the peoples and regional peace,” the statement said.

It further said that Papuashvili noted the development of bilateral relations, and that reciprocal visits at various levels have greatly contributed to this development.

“The meeting involved an exchange of ideas on the prospects of cooperation in the fields of energy, transportation, and culture,” the statement concluded.
