LONDON (AA) - An infant died after a boat carrying migrants encountered difficulties while attempting to cross the English Channel, according to British media outlets citing French authorities, on Friday.
SkyNews reported that the incident occurred off the coast of Wissant in northern France.
French search and rescue teams saved a total of 65 people from the stricken vessel.
A French Navy ship was among the four vessels deployed in the rescue operation, with a helicopter also assisting.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident has been launched by French authorities.
