GENEVA (AA) – The body of a baby discovered last week on a beach in Tarragona, a port city in northeastern Spain, was an eight-month-old girl from a capsized boat that killed all 15 irregular migrants, including her parents, local law enforcement said on Tuesday.
On April 6, the boat coming from Algeria sank in waters near the coast of the Balearic Islands and none of the irregular immigrants onboard survived.
The baby's corpse is the eighth recovered from the sunken boat, which was carrying 15 people, the Spanish news channel laSexta reported, citing the Guardia Civil – a law enforcement force.
The Criminalistics Service identified the girl by matching her genetic material to a database that included the DNA of her mother, whose body was also discovered on April 6 off the coast of the Balearic Islands.
