ANKARA (AA) - Barcelona beat Real Sociedad 1-0 in a Thursday Spanish La Liga match as Barca captain Sergio Busquets became the third-highest appearance maker in the club's history.
Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a header for Barcelona in the 11th minute at San Sebastian's Reale Arena, and it was the winning goal for the visitors.
Spanish defensive midfielder Busquets, 33, amassed 675 Barcelona appearances to surpass his longtime teammate Andres Iniesta, who is currently playing for Japan's Vissel Kobe.
Busquets has been playing for Barcelona's senior team since 2008.
Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez tallied 767 appearances for the team while he was a club player from 1998-2015.
Paris Saint-Germain's Argentine forward Lionel Messi played 778 matches for Barcelona to be the record holder in this field.
Following the win, second-place Barcelona have 63 points.
Leaders Real Madrid are getting closer and closer to the 2022 Spanish title as Los Blancos have 78 points with five matches to spare.
Meanwhile, Real Sociedad are in sixth spot with 55 points.
