ISTANBUL (AA) – Legendary players from Barcelona and Real Madrid are set to meet for the first time next month for a charity game in Japan.
"The star attraction is Andres Iniesta, who only recently retired and is a beloved figure in Japan after spending five years at Vissel Kobe, but there are plenty of other exciting faces," Barcelona said in a statement.
“There is Xavi Hernandez, recently coach of the FC Barcelona first team and whose name is synonymous with Iniesta's, as well as Argentine favourite Javier Mascherano.
"Also making his debut is Mexican Rafa Marquez, coach of Barca Atletic for the last two seasons. All four are going to wearing the blaugrana jersey for the first time since 2018 (Iniesta), 2015 (Xavi) and 2018 (Mascherano) and 2010 (Marquez).”
Fans will also get the chance to see legendary players like Rivaldo, Bojan Krkic, Javier Saviola, Ludovic Giuly, Adriano, and Gaizka Mendieta, among others.
The legends' clash is set to take place on Dec. 15 at Tokyo's Ajinomoto Stadium, marking their first-ever meeting in Japan.
The Barca Legends program, established in 2016 and directly managed by the club, brings together former stars of Barcelona in an ongoing initiative.
The goal is to globalize the Barcelona name, offering fans worldwide the opportunity to connect with the club's rich history and iconic players.
