ANKARA (AA) - Bayern Munich took a 4-0 home win against Wolfsburg in a German Bundesliga match Friday as forward Thomas Muller scored in his 400th league appearance.
A pure Bayern product, Muller has been playing for the club's senior team since 2009.
Muller scored the opener in the seventh minute at Allianz Arena.
Serge Gnabry's shot was parried by Wolfsburg goalkeeper Koen Casteels but Muller finished in close range after a rebound by Casteels.
Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano doubled the gap in the 57th minute.
Muller crossed to find Upamecano in the penalty area as the 23-year-old Frenchman headed to score for Bayern Munich for the first time.
Two minutes later, Bayern Munich made it 3-0 as star Leroy Sane curled the ball with his left foot and sent it into the corner from the edge of the Wolfsburg penalty area.
In the 87th minute, Bayern Munich's Polish star Robert Lewandowski made it 4-0.
Upamecano lobbed the ball over the Wolfsburg defense to find Jamal Musiala.
Musiala headed it to Lewandowski immediately, who ran into the area. The Polish forward scored an acrobatic left volley, which was his 18th league goal of the season.
Bayern Munich consolidated the German league's top spot with 43 points in 17 matches.
Their nearest opponents in the standings, second-place Borussia Dortmund, collected 34 points in 16 weeks.
Meanwhile, Wolfsburg have 20 points to come 12th.
- Lewandowski nets most Bundesliga goals in 1 year
With the late goal against Wolfsburg, Lewandowski broke the record for the most Bundesliga goals in a single calendar year that previously belonged to Gerd Muller for 49 years.
The Ex-Bayern forward scored 42 league goals in 1972.
But Lewandowski has scored 43 league goals throughout 2021 to set the record.
