World No. 2 women's tennis player Aryna Sabalenka qualified for Round 3 of the 2024 US Open on Wednesday.
Belarus' Sabalenka, the 2023 US Open finalist, beat No. 76 ranked Lucia Bronzetti from Italy 6-3, 6-1 at Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York City.
In the other women's Round 2 match, China’s Qinwen Zheng, an Olympic gold medalist at the Paris 2024 Games, eliminated Russia’s Erika Andreeva 6-7 (3-7), 6-1, 6-2 at Grandstand.
In Round 2 of men's singles, world No. 4 Alexander Zverev of Germany beat wild card Alexandre Muller from France 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 to reach the next stage.
One of the four tennis majors, the US Open started on Monday and will run for nearly two weeks, with the men's singles final on Sept. 8.
