Belgium stay atop FIFA ranking, Turkey falls to 39

Turkish national football team move 10 places with 1,464 points in new rankings

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Belgian national football team remained atop the World Ranking Men, FIFA said Thursday.

"There has been a considerable amount of movement in the standings, although Belgium managed to retain their top spot despite being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the European Championship," FIFA said in a statement.

"Their last-eight opponents and eventual winners of the tournament, Italy, (5, +2), moved up into the top 5, just behind EURO runners-up England (4, no change). Just above that pair, Brazil (2, +1) and France (3, -1) swapped places," it added.

Belgium currently have 1,822 points. The team had 1,783 points in the previous edition.

The top-ranked squad are followed by Brazil with 1,798 points and France with 1762 points.

The Turkish national team, who ended EURO 2020 campaign without any points, are down to 39th place with 1,464 points.

Italy moved to the fifth spot after winning the EURO 2020 final against England while Copa America’s winner, Argentina, jumped to sixth.

Qatar was the biggest climber in August, rising 16 spots to 42nd with 1,455 points.

The next FIFA World Ranking will be announced Sept. 16.
