Ben Shelton shocked Frances Tiafoe to advance to the 2023 US Open men's singles semifinal Wednesday.
The American player eliminated his compatriot, the no. 10 seed -- 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(7) and 6-2 in the quarterfinal showdown.
"It was a hot one in here, wasn’t it?” said Shelton. “I felt like I left it all out here tonight."
"Sometimes you have to shut off the brain, close your eyes and just swing," the 20-year-old added.
Shelton will take on three-time US Open winner Novak Djokovic in his semifinal match.
"It doesn’t get much better than that," the young player said at the prospect of facing the Serbian tennis legend. "It’s been tough the last two matches, playing against Americans, but hopefully you guys can bring it for me two days from now."
