ANKARA (AA) – Turkish football club Besiktas suffered a heavy 5-0 home loss in the hands of the Belgian side Club Brugge in the UEFA Europa Conference League on Thursday.
Danish midfielder Casper Nielsen's screamer from long range opened the score early in the fourth minute at Besiktas Park.
Just 10 minutes later, Brazilian forward Thiago tipped the ball into the Besiktas net from a close range and the first half ended 2-0 in the Group D game.
The Belgian side kept the pressure on in the second half as well, as Thiago netted in the 46th minute with a ball he gained from a wayward Besiktas pass.
Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika netted another goal from just outside the penalty area and made it 4-0.
Besiktas fans had enough of the poor display of their team after the fourth goal and began to protest players. They wanted players to take off their jerseys for playing unworthy.
Danish attacker Andreas Skov Olsen scored an empty net goal after Besiktas goalie Ersin Destanoglu had to defend against two Club Brugge attackers.
Club Brugge gained top spot in Group D with 13 points, while Besiktas anchored to the bottom with 1 point.
