ISTANBUL (AA) - The administration of US President Joe Biden is extending overtime protections to 1 million more workers making less than $43,888 a year, the White House said Monday in a statement.
In addition, next year overtime protections will be extended to another 3 million workers, while the overtime threshold will be raised to $58,656.
"That means higher paychecks and more time with family for millions of Americans," Biden said in the statement. "A hard day’s work should lead to a fair day’s pay."
"While Republicans side with big corporations and special interests on Park Avenue to try to deny workers these protections, I will always side with hardworking families like the ones I grew up with in Scranton," he added.
The extension is the latest in a series of administration decisions designed to help working people and consumers, including such measures as making airline refunds easier to get and allowing third parties to legally repair Apple products.
