LAGOS, Nigeria (AA) - At least four humanitarian workers were killed and two others abducted Sunday in northeastern Nigeria by members of the Boko Haram terrorist group.
The attack took place along the volatile Maiduguri-Monguno highway in Borno state, officials of international humanitarian organizations and military sources told Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity.
"Boko Haram ambushed and opened fire on some humanitarian workers in a vehicle along Maiduguri-Monguno road in the northern part of Borno," said an official with one of the international humanitarian organizations, whose staff was a victim.
Two military officers also confirmed the incident but military authorities are yet to speak on the matter
In Nigeria, the military rarely respond quickly or confirm attacks and killings of civilians and security personnel by Boko Haram.
