ISTANBUL (AA) – Bolivian President Luis Arce has ordered an investigation after former President Evo Morales accused the government of trying to kill him on Sunday after his car was struck by bullets.

Condemning any form of violence in politics, Arce said on X: "The exercise of any violent practice in politics must be condemned and clarified.”

“Therefore, in response to former President Evo Morales' complaint of an alleged attempt on his life, I have ordered an immediate and thorough investigation to clarify this incident,” he added.

On Sunday, Morales claimed that four masked armed assailants opened fire on his vehicle while he was en route to host his weekly program.

He posted a video online showing bullet holes in his car and an injured driver.

The alleged attack came amid heightened political tensions, as Morales, barred from future elections by a constitutional court, continues to mobilize supporters across Bolivia.
