BAGHDAD (AA) - Eight Hashd al-Shaabi fighters were killed in a blast on Thursday in the Iraqi city of Samarra, according to a local police source.
"An improvised explosive device went off as a patrol of Saraya al-Salam fighters passed through the area," Police Lieutenant Numan al-Jabouri told Anadolu Agency.
Saraya al-Salam is a component of Iraq’s largely Shia Hashd al-Shaabi fighting force, which was incorporated into the Iraqi armed forces in 2017.
At least six other Hashd fighters were injured in Thursday’s blast, several of them seriously, al-Jabouri said, going on to suggest that the Daesh terrorist group stood behind the attack.
