ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index went down 0.59 percent to close at 113,590.27 points on Friday, with a total trading volume of 5.93 billion Turkish liras ($1.55 billion).
Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 673.26 points, while the banking and holding sectors indices fell 0.25 percent and 0.84 percent, respectively.
Among all sectors, the transportation sector index was the best performer, rising 4.09 percent, while the telecommunication sector index performed the worst, down by 3.54 percent.
Shares of Turkish conglomerate Bera Holding were the top gainers of the day, up 4.98 percent, while stocks of Vakif GMYO, a state-run real estate investment trust suffered the most, falling 5.09 percent.
The top five most traded stocks were the national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Garanti, iron and steel producer Kardemir, investment trust Global Yatirim Holding and another private lender Akbank.
On Thursday, the BIST 100 dropped 1.13 percent or 1,306.66 points to close at 114,263.53 points. The trade volume was 5.9 billion Turkish liras (approximately $1.55 billion).
The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rose to 3.8180 as of 5 p.m. local time (1400GMT) on Friday, compared to Thursday's close at 3.8060.
The euro/lira exchange rate also climbed to 4.6830 on Friday, from 4.6770 the previous's close.
The BIST Gold Exchange index gained 0.42 percent in value, while the price of gold per kilogram reached to 161,950 Turkish liras (around $43,155) as of 5.30 p.m. local time (1430GMT), up from 160,500 liras at Thursday's close.
As of 5.30 p.m. local time (1430GMT) Friday, the price of Brent oil was $63.62 per barrel, versus $65.08 at the previous close.
