ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s benchmark index fell 0.12 percent to stand at 100,627.01 points at the close on Thursday.
Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index closed the day down 117.45 points with a total trading volume of 4.6 billion Turkish liras (approximately $1.27 billion).
The banking sector rose 0.05 percent and the holding sector dropped 0.28 percent. Among all sectors, the mining index was the best performer -- up 3.36 percent -- while the construction sector saw the biggest decline, 2.08 percent.
Shares of mining firm Koza Gold Corp. (KOZAA) were the top gainer, up 5.62 percent, while Yatas Bedding (YATAS) was the worst performer, losing 2.87 percent.
The five most-traded stocks were national flag carrier Turkish Airlines (THYAO), iron and steel producer Kardemir (KRDMD), private lender Garanti (GARAN), followed by Koza Gold Corp. (KOZAA) and another private lender Akbank (AKBNK).
The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate climbed to 3.6220 as of 5 p.m. (1400GMT) on Thursday, compared with 3.6030 at Wednesday's close.
Borsa Istanbul's Gold Exchange index rose 0.43 percent, while the price of gold per kilogram climbed to 142,600 Turkish liras (around $39,353) as of 4.30 p.m (1330 GMT).
