ANKARA (AA) – The Borsa Istanbul index advanced 0.57 percent to open at 76,924.12 points on Monday.
In the first trading day of the week, all sub-indexes of the BIST 100 were higher compared to the previous week’s close, with the retail sector leading the surge by a 1.33 percent advance.
The BIST 100 index lost 0.76 percent to close at 76,488.38 Sunday as Turkish markets were negatively affected by the rising U.S. dollar/Turkish lira rate after the U.S. currency scored gains against most of the emerging market currencies.
Analysts expect September’s consumer prices report within the day to be decisive on the course of markets.
The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate, which was at 2.9973 by the time markets closed at 5.30 p.m. (1430 GMT) Friday, edged up 0.2 percent to 3.0035 at the open 9.30 a.m. (0630 GMT) Monday.
