ISTANBUL (AA) – The Borsa Istanbul BIST 100 index opened Tuesday at 88,848.52 points, up 0.32 percent from the previous close.
The best-performing shares were from the petroleum and chemical sector, up 0.87 percent, while the worst performer at the open was the metal sector, down 0.32 percent.
On Monday the BIST 100 index rose 1.26 percent to reach 88,578.31, with a total trading volume of 3.7 billion Turkish liras (approximately $1 billion), as an appetite for risk on global markets reignited investor appetite in Turkish markets.
Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen’s comments in the U.S. Congress today and tomorrow prior to the March Fed policy committee meeting are expected to set the tone for the markets.
The U.S. dollar versus the Turkish lira rate was down to 3.6660 at the market opening at 0700GMT compared with Monday’s market close of 3.6790.
