BIST 100 opens 0.45 pct higher, US dollar/Turkish lira rate climbs to 3.9640

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark BIST 100 stock index rose 0.45 percent or 523.05 points to open at 117,125.86 points on Monday.

The banking and holding sector indices climbed 0.57 percent and 0.64 percent, respectively.

Among all sector indices, the insurance sector index was the best performer, gaining 1.1 percent, while the investment trusts sector saw the biggest fall, losing 6.91 percent.

On Friday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index closed at 116,602.82, dropping 0.43 percent with a 7.05 billion-Turkish lira ($1.76 billion) trade volume.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 3.9640 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Monday, compared with Friday's closing rate of 3.9580.

The euro/lira rate climbed to 4.9040, compared with 4.8890 on Friday's close.

The price of Brent oil dropped to $69.66 per barrel as of 9.50 a.m. local time (0650GMT) Monday, versus $69.81 at close on Friday.
