ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index was up 162.18 points on Monday to open at 97,695.45 points.
On the first trading day of the week, the BIST 100 index rose by 0.17 percent.
The banking and holding sector indices went up 0.22 percent and 0.20 percent, respectively.
Among all sectors, the mining sector index was the best performer with a 1.10 percent increase while the informatics sector started the day with the biggest decline, falling by 0.41 percent.
Even though the BIST 100 index was down 0.18 percent at the close of trade on Friday, it marked its highest weekly close of all time at 97,533.28 points.
The U.S, U.K. and Chinese markets are closed on Monday due to public holidays, but the markets will be monitoring the European Central Bank (ECB) President Mario Draghi's speech at European Parliament at 1300 GMT.
The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 3.5780 at 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) Monday compared with 3.5740 at Friday's close.
