BIST-100 index increases 215.96 points to open at 78,210.75

ANKARA (AA) – Borsa Istanbul rose by 0.28 percent at the opening of its daily session on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016.

The BIST-100 index increased 215.96 points to open at 78,210.75.

On Tuesday, the index had closed the day at 77,994.79 points, up 0.26 percent or 203.19 points, maintaining an upward trend that started on Friday. The banking sector index increased 0.37 percent, while the holding sector advanced 0.28 percent. Among all sectors, “the chemical, oil, plastic” sector came out as the best performer with 0.87 percent increase, whereas the “metal” sector decreased the most with 0.56 percent.

On Wednesday, markets are expected to closely follow the Beige Book report from the U.S., which will be revealed later in the night with comments from various Federal Reserve members.

Analysts say stock markets would also be positively affected by increased anticipation of additional monetary easing measures ahead of European Central Bank policy decision on Thursday.

Dollar on the other hand lost value against the Turkish lira, which was at 2.9330 at 6.00 p.m. local time (1500 GMT) on Tuesday, and at 2.9230 at 9.00 a.m. local time (0600 GMT).
