ANKARA (AA) — Bournemouth beat 10-man Arsenal 2-0 in a Saturday English Premier League match as the Gunners, which are still the title contenders, were handed their first loss of the season.
Visitors Arsenal were down to 10 men on the pitch after French defender William Saliba was shown a red card following a VAR review in minute 30 for a deliberate foul against Bournemouth's Evanilson.
Saliba pulled down the Bournemouth forward midfield to deny an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.
The Cherries' Scottish midfielder Ryan Christie broke the deadlock in the 70th minute, firing a left-footed volley into the top corner of the Arsenal net following a clever corner.
Bournemouth were awarded a penalty after Evanilson was brought down again by Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya. Dutch forward Justin Kluivert scored from the white spot to cement the 2-0 win.
Over the course of eight matches, Arsenal stayed third with 17 points. Leaders Liverpool and second-place Manchester City will play their matches each on Sunday.
Liverpool, having 18 points, will host London's Chelsea at the Anfield Stadium, while defending champions Man City will visit the Wolves at the Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton.
Following the home win, Bournemouth moved up to the 10th spot, as they now have 11 points.
On Saturday, Tottenham Hotspur beat West Ham United 4-1 in a home match, while Manchester United won against Brentford 2-1 at their home ground Old Trafford Stadium.
