ANKARA (AA) - Chelsea's Brazilian defender Thiago Silva on Monday prolonged his contract with the Blues for another season, the English Premier League club said.
"Thiago Silva’s time at Chelsea will continue into the 2022/23 season after the defender extended his contract at the club by one year," the club said in a statement.
Silva, 37, who is also the captain of Brazil’s national team, said that he is delighted to play for Chelsea and happy to remain at the London club.
"To play here with Chelsea is a real pleasure. I never thought I would play for three years here in this great club so I’m very happy to stay for another season," he remarked after signing the deal.
Silva was a longtime Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) player but left the French powerhouse to join Chelsea in 2020.
The experienced defender won the 2021 UEFA Champions League title with Chelsea in May and the UEFA Super Cup in August.
He was a seven-time French champion with PSG.
In 2011, Silva helped AC Milan win the Italian league title.
Separately, he won the 2019 Copa America trophy with his native Brazil.
He has amassed 102 international caps to score seven goals for the Brazilian national team.
