ISTANBUL (AA) - Brazil's consumer inflation annually rose 5.19% in September, according to figures released Wednesday.

It was lower than estimates of 5.27%, but it paced up from the year-on-year gain of 4.61% recorded in August.

On a monthly basis, the consumer price index rose 0.26% in September, also coming lower than the market expectation of a 0.34% increase.

The figure, however, was slightly above the month-on-month increase of 0.23% recorded in August.

Prices for six of the total nine groups of products and services increased in September, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) said in a statement.

The largest increase was recorded in transportation with a gain of 1.4%, followed by housing at 0.47%.

Brazil's central bank last month lowered its interest rate by 50 basis points to 12.75% -- its second consecutive rate cut since August.
