ISTANBUL (AA) - Brazil’s industrial production jumped 4.1% in June, compared to the previous month, marking an increase after two consecutive months of declines, according to official data released Friday.
The figure came in much higher than market estimates of a 2.4% increase.
The May figure, meanwhile, was revised to a decline of 1.5% from a decrease of 0.9%.
The result came as four major economic categories and 16 of the 25 industrial sectors surveyed showed contraction in production, the Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) said in a statement.
On an annual basis industrial output was up 3.2% in June, compared to the same month in 2023, IBGE said in the statement.
That figure also came in much higher than market expectations of a 1.2% gain.
The annual figure for May was revised to a decline of 1.1%, from a decrease of 1%.
The industrial sector grew 2.6% in the first six months of 2024, said IBGE.
