ISTANBUL (AA) - Canada's manufacturing sales fell 1.7% to $71.5 billion in June, according to figures released Tuesday by Statistics Canada.
The market expected the figure to show a 2% decline while manufacturing sales showed a gain of 1.2% in May.
In June, 14 of 21 subsectors showed declines in manufacturing sales.
Sales of petroleum and coal products plummeted 8.3%, while chemical and machinery fell 6.5% and 5.5%, respectively.
Motor vehicle sales, on the other hand, increased the most by rising 11.4% to reach $5.6 billion in June, Statistics Canada said in a statement.
Manufacturing sales fell in five provinces in June, led by Alberta and Ontario, while sales in Quebec increased the most, it added.
