ISTANBUL (AA) - Canada's manufacturing sales fell 2.1% to $69.6 billion in June, according to figures released Friday by the country's statistical agency.
The market expectation for the figure was to show a decrease of 2.3%.
The figure for May, meanwhile, was revised down from a rise of 0.4% to an increase of 0.2%.
A total of 17 sub-sectors out of 21 posted declines during the month of June.
The decline in June was mainly driven by chemical products and transportation equipment sub-sectors, which monthly fell 5.8% and 2.9%, respectively, according to Statistics Canada.
On a quarterly basis, manufacturing sales fell 0.3% in the second quarter of this year, marking the third consecutive quarterly decline, it added.
The decline in the second quarter was driven by lower sales in the petroleum and coal product sub-sector, which fell 4%, and the motor vehicle industry group which decreased 3.8%.
Annually, manufacturing sales decreased 1.8% in June, compared to the same month of last year, said the agency.
