ISTANBUL (AA) - Canada's retail sales rose 1.4% to $62 billion in October, recovering from the previous month's decline, the country's statistical authority said Tuesday.
But the figure was just below expectations of a 1.5% monthly gain.
The fall in September, which marked the second decline in the last nine months, was revised to 0.6%, from 0.5%,
Retail sales were up in six out of 11 subsectors, representing 84.4% of retail trade, Statistics Canada said in a statement.
The increase was led by higher sales at gasoline stations with a gain of 6.8%, followed by food and beverage stores with 2.2%.
Core retail sales, which exclude gasoline stations and motor vehicle and parts dealers, increased 0.9%.
