Canada's wholesale sales rise 0.3% in December 2023

Figure up 1.2% annually

ISTANBUL (AA) - Wholesale sales in Canada rose 0.3% in December to reach $82.9 billion, according to data released by the statistics office on Friday.

The market expectation for the figure was to show an increase of 0.7%.

Wholesale sales, a leading indicator of consumer spending, increased 0.9% in November last year.

"Sales increased in three of the seven subsectors, led by the personal and household goods subsector and the food, beverage and tobacco subsector," Statistics Canada said in a statement.

On an annual basis, wholesale sales, excluding petroleum, petroleum products, other hydrocarbons, oilseed and grain, were 1.2% higher in December 2023, compared with the same month of the year before.
