ISTANBUL (AA) - Wholesale sales in Canada increased 0.4% in September to $83.1 billion, according to Statistics Canada figures released Wednesday.
The expectation for the figure was to remain unchanged from the previous month.
Wholesale sales, a leading indicator of consumer spending, jumped 1.8% in August.
"On an annual basis, wholesale sales (excluding petroleum, petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons and excluding oilseed and grain) were 1.6% higher in September compared with the same month one year earlier," the agency said in a statement.
"The food, beverage and tobacco subsector, up 1.6% to $15.0 billion in September, also contributed to growth in wholesale sales," it added.
