ANKARA (AA) – Manchester United, who were without their Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo on Saturday, took an away draw with Chelsea by 1-1 after Casemiro scored a stoppage time header.
Chelsea broke the deadlock in the 87th minute at London's Stamford Bridge as Italian midfielder Jorginho scored from the penalty spot.
However, Manchester United's Brazilian midfielder Casemiro came to the rescue in the 94th minute, scoring the equalizer that shocked the Stamford Bridge.
Luke Shaw crossed from the left to assist Casemiro who headed the ball. Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga did his best but the ball has crossed the line after hitting the goalpost.
So Erik ten Hag's men returned to Manchester with one point.
Fifth in the Premier League, Manchester United have 20 points. The Red Devils are one point behind fourth-place Chelsea, and will be looking for the Blues' mistake next weekend.
- Man Utd defender Varane injured
Manchester United's French central defender Raphael Varane faced a leg injury in the Chelsea clash, jeopardizing his place in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
In the 59th minute, France regular Varane left the field in tears after facing an injury. He was replaced by Sweden's Victor Lindelof.
Varane was in tears because he expects that he is likely to miss the World Cup, which will start in Qatar in less than a month.
The 29-year-old has been one of the main pillars of France as Varane previously helped Les Bleus win the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
In Qatar 2022, France are in Group D to face Australia, Denmark and Tunisia.
