ANKARA (AA) – Chelsea took a 3-0 win against Newcastle United in an English Premier League match on Saturday to extend their lead in the standings.
Blues defender Reece James scored twice to be the man of the match at St. James' Park, Newcastle.
James broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, firing a left-footed vicious strike in the box, which beat Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow.
Then James appeared in the 77th minute to unleash a volley in the area as he gave a 2-0 lead to Chelsea.
Chelsea midfielder Kai Havertz was fouled by Darlow in the area as the visitors were awarded a penalty.
Jorginho converted it successfully in minute 81 to name the result 3-0 for the Blues.
Leaders Chelsea have 25 points in 10 matches as they moved three points clear of second-place Liverpool.
Title contenders Manchester City are in the third position with 20 points.
On Saturday both Liverpool and Man City dropped points.
Liverpool were handed a shocking 2-2 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion at their home ground Anfield.
The Reds could not secure the 2-0 lead at home as Brighton fought to escape with a draw.
Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane scored for Liverpool in 30 minutes but Brighton took a point after the goals netted by Enock Mwepu and Leandro Trossard.
- Crystal Palace shock Man City
Ten-man Manchester City lost to Crystal Palace 2-0 at home, a big blow for the team.
Wilfried Zaha and Conor Gallagher were the scorers for Crystal Palace at Etihad Stadium in Manchester.
Man City's Spanish defender Aymeric Laporte was sent off near the end of the first half after a foul against Zaha.

Manchester United beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo scored the opener in the 39th minute, firing a first-time right-footed shot from a tight angle. Bruno Fernandes assisted him via a cross.
In the 64th minute, Ronaldo assisted Edinson Cavani as the Uruguayan forward did a finesse shot over Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
Near the end of the match, Man United's Marcus Rashford had a through ball from Nemanja Matic to add a third goal in the area.
So Manchester United secured a 3-0 victory over the Spurs.
Manchester United climbed to the fifth position with 17 points.
The Red Devils are now eight points behind leaders Chelsea.
Tottenham Hotspur have bagged 15 points so far to fall to the eighth spot in the league table.
