China has not provided arms to Russia, Moscow has not asked: Chinese envoy to Paris

Both nations recognize ‘bottom line’ in relationship, says Lu Shaye

ANKARA (AA) - Chinese envoy to Paris said ties between China and Russia have “no limits” but weapons are not included, according to media reports.

“Both China and Russia are sovereign states and have the right to cooperate in all fields. But this kind of cooperation is not without a bottom line, which is why China still has not provided weapons to Russia,” Ambassador Lu Shaye was quoted in the South China Morning Post. “Russia has not asked for them, because they also know the bottom line.”

Lu described Russia’s general approach towards Ukraine as “debatable,” last week while speaking to diplomatic correspondents in France. He noted the two sides could have found a solution to the conflict through negotiations, according to the newspaper.

“Just imagine, if the two sides had reached an agreement on the peace talks at the end of March, then the two Nord Stream pipelines would not have exploded, and Europe would have regained natural gas supplies from Russia, thus getting rid of this energy crisis,” he said.

The transcript of Lu's meeting with reporters was released Wednesday on the Chinese Embassy website.
