China, North Korea mark 75 years of diplomatic ties

Both leaders emphasize importance of longstanding relationship, express commitment to enhance cooperation

ISTANBUL (AA) - Chinese President Xi Jinping and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un exchanged messages celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency reported Sunday.

Xi underscored the two nations' mutual support in reinforcing authority, protecting sovereignty and promoting socialism.

He said they have also collaborated closely to foster regional peace and stability and uphold international equity and justice.

The Chinese leader stressed his high confidence for bilateral relations, underlining that recent meetings and dialogues with Kim have directed the relationship's evolution.

Xi said the two nations will enhance amicable exchanges and cooperation in the "new era."

Kim declared that diplomatic relations had entered a new historical phase since 75 years ago. He commended both countries for surmounting challenges and advancing socialism over the decades.

The North Korean leader emphasized the significance of continuing to cultivate the friendship, deeming it essential to both nations' interests.

He said they will persist in achieving new milestones in "building a modern socialist country."
