ISTANBUL (AA) - China on Friday reported its first case of monkeypox.
According to details shared by state-run Global Times, the case was found in southwest China's Chongqing municipality.
The patient entered China from overseas and was observing the mandatory COVID-19 quarantine period after international travel, the report said.
"Close contacts (of the patient) have been put under medical observation," it added.
The disease is known to be endemic to parts of Africa, but a growing outbreak in several European and North American countries has raised concerns that the virus may be spreading around the globe.
