ISTANBUL (AA) - China sought “resolute” efforts Thursday against “attempt to roll back" globalization and (oppose) abuse the concept of security.”
“China calls for an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization,” according to a statement released at the end of a Central Conference on work relating to China’s Foreign Affairs in Beijing.
President Xi Jinping attended the conference where he delivered an "important speech," according to Vice Foreign Minister Hua Chunying.
It is the first such meeting held since 2018.
Beijing's call for efforts against “attempts against” globalization comes amid the US’ moves to foster alliances against the expanding economic and military influence of the world’s second-largest economy.
The meeting said all forms of “unilateralism and protectionism” should be opposed while “firmly” promoting trade and investment liberalization and facilitation.
“Make economic globalization more open, inclusive, balanced and beneficial to all,” said the statement.
“An equal and orderly multipolar world is one in which all countries, regardless of size, are treated as equals, hegemonism and power politics are rejected, and democracy is truly promoted in international relations,” it said, adding China faces “new strategic opportunities in its development.”
While China has “become a responsible major country with enhanced international influence,” it said: “On major issues concerning the future of humanity and the direction of the world, we must take a clear and firm position, and hold the international moral high ground.”
“We need to advocate the spirit of independence, champion peaceful development, and promote global stability and prosperity,” it stressed.
The meeting demanded that China’s diplomats “reject all acts of power politics and bullying, and vigorously defend our national interests and dignity.”
