ISTANBUL (AA) - China on Tuesday said it "strongly" opposed Canada's ban on messaging app WeChat.
"The ban is a typical move of national security concept generalization and an abuse of national power under the guise of data protection, to unreasonably crackdown on companies of specific countries," Wang Wenbin, spokesman of China's Foreign Ministry, told a press briefing as reported by Beijing-based daily Global Times.
Citing what it called "an unacceptable level of risk to privacy and security", Canada on Monday announced a ban on the Chinese messaging application WeChat and the Russian antivirus program Kaspersky on government-issued mobile devices.
